POSSIBLE NEXT NEW CAMERA: Nikon COOLPIX S1000pj
Honestly, it could easily be something as rubbish looking as this. We nearly impulse bought a camera in Tesco last week, for Christ’s sake. It was a Samsung. Can’t even remember the model number. Does the model number even matter any more?
Gone are the days we’d spend weeks – possibly even months – trawling review and price comparison web sites for the best/cheapest camera option available.
The next camera will be impulse bought from Tesco. It’s easier. It’ll be whichever one they’ve got on sale. We’ll probably have forgotten about buying it until we start putting the milk in the fridge back home, and even then it won’t get unboxed for a month.

Blimey, get the Nikon, it obviously doubles as a projector too?
Does it have a taser, little periscope and Kenny Baker inside too?

Can it really project images of anything you can cram into the box in the back? That’d be great for viewing dismembered body parts (depending on the candella rating, obviously).

I nearly impulse bought one of those screen picture frame things from Tesco, but fortunately the part of my brain that was ranting about how shit and unecessary they are, and how there are enough screens in the house alread, managed eventually to penetrate the consumerist murk that had engulfed me.
However, if they would connect wirelessly to my PC and cycle randomly through all of my photos I’d be tempted. There’s that thing now where you drag your camera everywhere, experience your ENTIRE LIFE via a 2″ x 2″ screen, but of course then never look at any of your photos, ever (digital cameras are extremely modern in the sense that they are largely a complete waste of time and energy). The idea of occasionally actually seeing some of my photos is quite appealing…

I’m glad this is not just me then. I’ve nearly done that while camera shopping too.
Then I got annoyed and discovered none of the vendors for the cameras they sell in shops these days are using standardized USB interfaces (all have POINTLESS adapters).
Anyone know any good cameras with proper USB interfaces? Am considering going for an old second hand Cannon as they used to.
The next time I get a desktop PC (for games, not a Mac, for actual stuff) I’ll probably just be lazy and get some overpriced Alienware crap, or have some guy assemble something for me. I can’t be arsed anymore.

Hmmm…a picture frame that connects wirelessly to my PC and cycles randomly through all the pictures on my machine could be handy in some instances but I’d suspect it’d more worrying than handy. Not sure I could handle the constant niggling worry that it’d find THAT hidden truecrypt partition and start displaying everything from that while my back was turned…
How much is a second hand cannon btw? More or less thna second hand ballista?

I still have a 2.0 Mega Pixel camera that I barely ever use. I didn’t even buy it, it belonged to a relative who bought a better one.
Perhaps I should upgrade and take photos of random strangers and claim to my family that they’re my friends. Because you can tell someone with an old camera doesn’t have many friends. It would be a little less sad, I think.

Good idea. I will also get something secondhand off eBay. I’m also tired of worrying about the screens of things getting scratched, so something that comes pre-scratched will ease the mind.

Maybe this one, as it would appear to have had one careful lady owner.

Jeez, that’s just asking for any of us to outbid you now, just so that we can feel closer to you…talk about encouraging stalkers.
If you win, ask them to leave the previously dead batteries in it and take pictures of them with your old camera, before putting new batteries in and taking some pics with the new camera. Of the old camera. Looking sadly at its replacement. If that’s not recursive enough you could always throw some mirrors in there too, for good measure.
You could also ask them to leave an sd card in it and see what pictures you get sent. But I suspect that one’s less likely.

So, did you win it?
August 15th, 2009 on 7:39 pm
No, I got sidetracked by something a bit more “boutique” from Fujifilm.
August 15th, 2009 on 9:17 pm
Oh. that sounds…worrying.
Is it pink?
And, most importantly, what batteries does it take?

Haven’t actually bought one yet, I’m still in the groundwork phase. Fuji’s proprietary power options are a bit of a sticking point, so I’m thinking of an E900 as it takes AAs.
