The Fujifilm CamCushion

Yes, it really is just a cushion for putting your camera on. We like to put our camera on a table or pile of CDs, saving ourselves ten pounds.

fujifilm camcushion

THIS IS HOW FUJIFILM JUSTIFIES CHARGING YOU A TENNER FOR A SMALL CUSHION:
Fujifilm today expanded its digital camera accessories range with the launch of its handy Camcushion.

Filled with resin beads, and made from a durable, hard-wearing material, the Camcushion is a great companion for busy photographers wanting a steady platform for their cameras, or when use of a table-top tripod is impractical or just not possible. The no-nonsense cushion sits on any surface and is the ideal platform for cameras to rest safely and securely - perfect for self-timer shots or long exposures.

Just the thing for awkward shooting situations, the cushion is lightweight and can easily slip into a camera bag. Furthermore, the Camcushion cuts out camera shake in low light situations, when flashes are not permitted and longer shutter speeds are required - just like a tripod but without the time-consuming setting-up. It's also a convenient way to stabilise your camera if you're using it as a webcam.

The Fujifilm Camcushion is available from photographic retailers throughout the UK and has a suggested retail price of £9.99 (including VAT).

PERSONAL ESCAPE PODS

Good old The Russians. They've invented something to sell to stupid Americans for a huge amount of money, and something that clearly won't ever work, too.

"In an emergency, someone wishing to leave in a hurry would strap on the backpack and jump, pulling a ring as he did so. The pod would inflate, surround him instantly and bear him gently to the ground."

It's a "burning building escape pod" from the Lavochkin Association. It's sort of a rubber ball that inflates around you, probably killing you in the process.

PSP -- GAMES YOU'VE PLAYED BEFORE, AND NOW FILMS YOU'VE SEEN BEFORE TOO!

Boooooring news!

Sony Europe has announced what films it's launching alongside PSP this September -- and they're all SHITE and OLD!

Now you can watch Ghostbusters from 1984 on your PSP, or A Knight's Tale, or Bad Boys, or the WORST FILM OF 2004 AND POSSIBLY EVER Resident Evil Apocalypse.

THEY SEEM TO BE PROUD OF THIS FACT:
"Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) is to release 19 UMDTMVideo (Universal Media DiscTM Video) film titles on 1 September 2005, the same date as the PSPTM (PlayStation®Portable) handheld entertainment system launches in the UK. The films will include new release title xXx: The Next Level as well as diverse catalogue titles including Ghostbusters, SWAT and Bad Boys."

FULL LIST OF UTTER TEDIUM:
13 Going on 30
Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid
Bad Boys
Charlie's Angels
Daddy Day Care
Ghostbusters
Hellboy
Hitch
Hollowman
A Knight's Tale
Once Upon a Time In Mexico
The One
The Punisher
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Spider-Man Animated
SWAT
xXx
xXx: The Next Level
You Got Served
Plus: Spider-Man 2 – (NOT available to purchase as available free of charge to early purchasers via http://www.yourpsp.com)

Sony is TOO ASHAMED to confirm how much these rubbish old films are going to cost on PSP UMD format, but it's almost certian to be something stupidly high like 20 or 25 pounds.

PSP GTA -- Liberty City Stories revealed!

Holy crap. Some youth with a digital camera has taken photos of the new Grand Theft Auto -- Liberty City Stories -- for Sony's PSP, as featured exclusively in this month's UK Official PlayStation2 Magazine.

In short: It's fully 3D, a "proper" and "new" GTA for PSP, set three years before the events of GTA III, and, well, it looks staggeringly great for a handheld GTA.

PSP GTA!

Yes, PSP GTA!!

More here, until they get made to take them down: PSP GTA scans

It's satire! (About how an American has bought English soccerball team Manchester United).

Pretty good, too, although we'd put money on them running out of ideas once the initial enthusiasm has worn off.

That happened to us in 1997.

*ROBOT THREAT UPDATE* -- NEC announces "tasting" robot

Oh yes. It will taste. It will TASTE HUMAN BLOOD.

"NEC's 'Health/Food Advice Robot' will investigate the composition and proportion inside the food, will issue a warning for taking in too much fat and/or sugar, or tell you if fruit is ripe. If the infrared reflection ratio distribution of various foods is loaded inside the unit beforehand, it can compare the results of the researched food, and determine the actual type of food. For example, it can immediately recognize the make of cheese of type of bread."

Kenwood does the whole iPod thing

Well done, Kenwood! That's a really great idea you've just had there!

What GENIUS KENWOOD has done is taken a hard drive (20Gb), made it small, put a screen on it (2.2-inch), then made it so it can play MP3 and WMA music ONE THE MOVE thanks to a battery.

Kenwood's main innovation here is to... MAKE IT BLACK instead of white or silver.

"Foreplay robot" set to alleviate burden of having to have sex

Finally, some good news about robots. This is from India, where a "wanking robot" is set to make having sex less of a chore:

Dr Naidu said, "...Couples are so stressed out that there's no time for foreplay, so essential to get the juices flowing. A smart machine can bridge that gap in no time."

...and then you come in for the last two minutes and finish her off. Cheers, Sex Robot.

*ROBOT THREAT UPDATE* iRobot - Robots for the Real World

WORRYING ROBOT DEVELOPMENT QUOTES:

"large swarms of autonomous robots"

"distributed algorithms for robotic swarms composed of hundreds of individual robots"

"the user cannot program, charge, or even turn on the robots by hand"

"As robots head towards ubiquity, swarms will become the norm rather than the exception"

"The Robot Ecology(TM) provides resources so that the robots can keep themselves running, and the HIVE user interface provides centralized command and control of the swarm"

Vodafone launches prepaid 3G service in Ireland

Now featuring full music downloads, for people who really do have money to actually burn. Look:

"A subscription costs €5.96 for four tracks per month and individual tracks are priced at €1.99 each"

You really shouldn't be spending that much money on downloading music on your mobile phone. Not a bad price for a Nokia 6680 though:

"A range of five prepaid 3G handsets will be in Vodafone retail stores from 2nd June. Customers who choose to trade up their 2G phone will receive €100 off the cost of their new 3G handset. The Motorola V908 has a RRP of €149, the Nokia 6630 will be €199, the Sony Ericsson V800 will cost €249, the Nokia 6680 €299 and the Sharp V902 will retail from €499."

Apple confirms Intel deal

Finally. Now the most boring news story of the last week can hereby be laid to rest.

WWDC 2005, SAN FRANCISCO—June 6, 2005—At its Worldwide Developer Conference today, Apple® announced plans to deliver models of its Macintosh® computers using Intel® microprocessors by this time next year, and to transition all of its Macs to using Intel microprocessors by the end of 2007. MobliSudoku -- Sudoku for Series 60

We'd rather play along with Countdown (get well soon, Richard Whiteley) than spend ages on this boring numbers-only quiz, but, seeing as Sudoku is "sweeping the nation", here's a version of Sodoku we've found that runs on Series 60 mobiles.

It's around four quid.

mobile sudoku

"MobliSudoku, based on the ever-popular Sudoku, is a mobile phone version containing 50 puzzles (20 easy, 20 medium and 10 hard) and a Sudoku solver. The rules of Sudoku are simple. Enter digits from 1 to 9 into the blank spaces. Every row must contain one of each of the nine digits. So must every column, as must every 3x3 square. Each Sudoku puzzle within MobliSudoku has a unique solution that can be reached logically without guessing or backtracking. Stumped by a Sudoku puzzle published in a newspaper or magazine? Just enter the given numbers into the grid and MobliSudoku can instantly solve the grid! We have yet to find a puzzle that our solver cannot solve! Use our program to play Sudoku in the car, train or plane. Enjoy!"

Journey to the centre of the Earth!

Real-life Japanese scientists finally start doing things as cool as pretend Japanese movie scientists have been doing for years -- drilling to THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH!

"The 57,500-tonne drill ship Chikyu (Japanese for Earth) is being prepared in the southern port of Nagasaki. Two-thirds the length of the Titanic, it is fitted with technology borrowed from the oil industry that will allow it to bore through 7,000 metres of crust below the seabed while floating in 2,500 metres of water - requiring a drill pipe 25 times the height of the Empire State building."

AND!

"It could take more than a year to drive through miles of crust and reach the mantle, so the ship is fitted with six rotating thrusters controlled by GPS satellites to keep it directly over the hole."

Guardian Unlimited | Life | Journey to the centre of Earth

Turns out they're only going 6 miles down, not quite to the centre. But it's still exciting.
